The Tampico Motel in Anaheim, known for being the focus of police actions for decades, would be senior housing soon, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
The Anaheim Housing Authority plans to convert the property, acquired last May 2022, into an affordable housing project similar to El Verano Apartments, which is the old Sandman Motel and now serves formerly homeless and at-risk seniors.
This conversion will be Anaheim’s third motel conversion project since the start of the Housing Authority’s program in 2019. The Tampico Motel is larger than a previously chosen site (the Kona Inn) that was a dropped deal due to the selling price. Anaheim pledged to purchase the half-acre Tampico Motel for $5.3 million. The original lodgment offer will grow from 26 to 32 at the Tampico Motel. A plus: The property is close to popular restaurants, shopping, and other services for the community.
Anaheim's neighbors in the Tampico Motel area expect a positive change in the social environment with this housing conversion project. 🏡
